What is going on everyone? Welcome to another very exciting episode right here on the Am I Gardener channel. In today's episode I'm going to be bringing you guys along for a fall harvest video I'm so excited about it because I do think so often we completely neglect fall. For me fall is my favorite season Not only because you can wear t-shirts in the day and sweaters at night both great things to wear I love both of them, but also you get to have both summer and spring When it comes to you know your spring crops like your lettuce your radishes your spinach
I'm just some wonderful crops like that, but also you get your warm weather crops like your zucchinis your tomatoes Peppers things like that and I just think it's so much fun to have both seasons all in one All right, so I'm gonna bring you guys along and let's go harvest some stuff. I'm really excited I already just got some some tomatoes here from the compels pile. I was out here I was just kind of walking around throwing some stuff doing some chores and throwing some stuff in the compels pile and I noticed there were some ripe tomatoes and so lo and behold
From the compels pile we got ripe tomatoes. We didn't even have to do anything. They just sprouted from a volunteer plant So yeah, really happy about that, but I'm gonna bring you guys along There's a lot more tomatoes we stopped to harvest and some other stuff as well So let's go. So the first thing I want to point out are the beans Check out the pole beans. They are absolutely beautiful Everyone that told me I was crazy for planting pole beans as late as I did. Well, I don't seem too crazy now
I'm so happy with these. These are lush. They're beautiful. They're dense and check it out They're loaded with beans. Now these beans need about another I'd say three to five days to to ripen up and be ready to be harvested But they're absolutely loaded. These are the the Kentucky or these are the Not the Kentucky Wonder. These are the Blue Lake pole beans So these are the Blue Lake pole beans here and then we have the Kentucky Wonder over here
They're just starting to ripen up and just starting to flower and get ready to mature But the Blue Lake pole beans are rocking and rolling. So they look nice So not quite ready yet, but I did want to show you what those look like and nothing over on this side You know, as you know, we had our we had our our beets planted So we don't have anything over on this side trellising up But it's a wonderful proof of concept that you can just imagine You just imagine how this will look next year once we have both sides growing with with vining crops
So the next crop that we're harvesting a ton of right now is our golden zucchini Now you guys thought well not everyone but a lot of you guys thought I was absolutely crazy for planting this as late as I did Very similarly to the pole beans. You guys said there is no way you'll have enough time to get anything But I knew I had faith. I knew how long my season was. I knew that I'd done it before I knew that the season was kind of shaping up to be very similar and With how warm it was and how warm the nights still were I said, you know what I'm gonna go for it
I'm gonna try it and we're still getting a ton of golden zucchini They just started producing about three weeks ago, but so far from these six plants We've already pulled 12 golden zucchini from them So they're just starting to kind of ramp up production right now And yes, we are starting to get some powdery mildew on some of the leaves. That's indicative of a cold fall night We're almost into October. So the fact that we're getting any zucchini right now is pretty amazing Right now at our local farmers market
Nobody has any zucchini at all and that's just an awesome testament to the fact that you know If we were to take these to market people would be paying a pretty penny for these and you can make a nice little Sideliving selling some stuff that's kind of considered out of season So we're gonna get some we're gonna get some some more zucchini today because there's one here that needs to be harvested and The nice thing about zucchini is they don't have to sit on the vine for a super long time Because you pick them like this check out these beautiful golden zucchini. I
Absolutely love these golden zucchini. They're so beautiful I love the deep golden color with the kind of cream streaking going along the length of the squash there and that is just a Beautiful beautiful zucchini. I absolutely love this variety The next thing we're picking tons of right now is our radishes So you guys saw our last video where we're talking about the the bed that we That we planted six thousand seeds in and completely disregarded spacing you guys saw how many radishes
We're pulling from that bed. We're still getting beautiful radishes as they mature. They're getting absolutely gorgeous We just had a ton of rain. The nights are cool. This bed is truly just thriving. I thought it was really funny There was someone that commented that said, you know, I could see from the thumbnail that you put the that you put The radishes in there you must have bought them from the store and planted them thinking that we'd be fooled I thought man What what on earth are you even talking about?
So I thought it was just really funny that someone thought I'd go to that length to stage something So anyways, I must have some more staged radishes in here somewhere. So let's go pull the stage radishes now All right, you want to harvest some radishes? Yeah, okay Hey, you can pull ones that look like this Look at that Absolutely beautiful
We got some volunteer tomatoes that started producing over in our compost pile. That's what kind of spurred this video Look at that Nice though, there's a huge those are huge radishes
There are a lot of them check this out look at that get out of the bed, honey Look at that See that That is huge good job So aside from the radishes, we're also starting to get a lot of pock choy check this out We've been harvesting this pock choy here and these outer leaves are absolutely beautiful. These things are tender
They're delicious. We've been throwing them in stir fries and these things you cannot get any better I absolutely love the flavor of these. They're just so incredibly delicious and Extremely healthy for you as well We've been getting so much pock choy from this bed and they absolutely love these cool nights all the rain that we're getting Just beautiful even though they're starting to go to seed because the daytime temperatures are still in the you know High high 60s to low 70s A little too warm for them in the day, but nighttime temperatures are just perfect
So they're still loving it still growing well. We're getting those to harvest as well Now when it comes to tomatoes, there is no shortage of tomatoes still these plants are absolutely Loaded down with tomatoes and before I cut some I'm gonna give you guys just a quick pan over of just how dense these plants are All of the tomatoes are ripening up They look absolutely beautiful even though the plants are starting to show some signs of Disease some plants have already kind of just well, they've completely kicked the bucket but a lot of the plants that are They're still thriving
They're producing and they're still flowering believe it or not and this is absolutely incredible this late in the season We're generally almost done with tomatoes, but we're still getting pounds of tomatoes every day from the garden
So check this out. Hey, hey check out this
We got some beans over here that are ripen ready. I had no idea. These really matured up quickly We got some some pole beans over here as well And these are the climbing slenderettes These slender at pole beans are a new variety that we're trying and I'm really really enjoying how fast these matured
These things are a little flatter a little more like a French style bean still getting some jubilee
Absolutely beautiful orange tomatoes. We're even still getting some Pazano tomatoes. I absolutely love these pastes these pastes out tomatoes Well, I'd say that fall is pretty productive. We need a bigger bowl. All right I'm gonna go empty this and then we'll we'll fill it up with some more stuff This is our sage we've also been getting herbs like thyme basil oregano Parsley and any other herbs pretty much for that matter our summer savory
We've just been harvesting as much as we can because we know that the winters either gonna kill it or kill it back So might as well harvest either way We've also been getting lots of beets the beets have been super productive this year and We've really enjoyed coming out and picking fresh beets Absolutely beautiful nice size We've even gotten some golden beets
Beautiful color. We're actually offering these in the Am I gardener seed store this year? Absolutely stunning and then we're also getting lots of Detroit dark red beets Look at that stunning And then check out these peppers. Just look at the peppers We've been getting so many peppers off these plants
The peppers have truly just been out producing and absolutely exploding in the in the past few weeks We've actually gotten some ripe Peppers as well Nice beautiful blocky sun bright pepper absolutely gorgeous We got here our autumn beauty bell pepper Absolutely beautiful, but they are productive
and huge Check that out Look at that pepper our Pasea behio peppers Are still producing They're absolutely loaded up We've been drying these and turning them into beautiful dried chilies for the winter time And even crops like our anchos and our poblanos Are doing really well as well
We've gotten so many peppers off these plants This year has been a fantastic year for peppers Our cornedotoro peppers Are doing amazing as well These things are huge We've gotten so many off these plants And we're just absolutely loving How huge these peppers get Here's a red cornedotoro We also have an orange cornedotoro right here And then here's our shishito pepper
I absolutely love the shishito peppers They do turn red when they're completely ripe But as you can see They're delicious and beautiful Both green or red Looks like a very productive year for peppers Gotta go empty the bowl All these beautiful lunchbox peppers are starting to ripen up We've had so many of these lunchbox peppers And I won't say we're sick of them Because if they're really hard to get sick of
But they are definitely producing way more than we can eat We've even given them away But they are just productive Every single week we come out here And we'll get probably 30 or 40 of these One thing that we've been getting a ton of as well Have been our Japanese long bunching onions We planted these in seed clusters around early July And what we do is we simply come out here And we'll pull a few out Or the whole stock
Doesn't really matter The whole bunch came out this time but That's fine we'll eat them up We're going to make some stir fry later tonight anyways With all that pak choi we've been getting All you do is just take those Wash them off, separate them out one by one And that right there is a gorgeous Gorgeous bunch of Japanese long bunching onions We've got a bunch more in here All throughout here kind of just getting buried Underneath the peppers Now one type of vegetable we're just starting to get And that's our winter squash
They had to grow all season long Cure on the vine, harden their skin Fresh all winter long So we have quite a few different winter squash We're going to be picking today We have the butternut squash Which is just a classic Absolutely love the walthand's butternut squash We also have a new one this year Called the Wisconsin cheese This is an absolutely beautiful It looks like a cheese wheel When you slice it open the outer rind Looks like the rind of a cheese And the inside is just creamy yellow
Absolutely beautiful Like a wheel of cheese And then we also have the golden Pippin acorn squash So really happy to have these three different varieties here And I cannot wait to see how many we get I'll have to break it I don't have my large clippers with me
