Merge, split and shift SRT files
To change subtitle timing, paste an SRT or VTT file, choose Shift timing, Merge files or Split file, enter the values and run it. Shifting moves every cue by a number of seconds, merging joins files one after another and splitting cuts a file at a time or every N cues. Cues are renumbered.

How to shift, merge or split an SRT file in 3 steps
- Choose Shift timing, Merge files or Split file, then paste or choose your file.
- Enter the shift in seconds, the offset of each added file, or where to split.
- Select the button, then copy or download the result.
Example output
A short sample written by TubeTranscript (not a real video), run through this tool when the page was built.
Input
1 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,000 First cue. 2 00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:06,000 Second cue.
Output
1 00:00:03,000 --> 00:00:05,000 First cue. 2 00:00:06,000 --> 00:00:08,000 Second cue.
How each action treats timing
- Shift moves every cue, or only the cues from a start point, by a number of seconds. A negative shift that would move a cue before 0:00 is refused instead of cutting it off.
- Merge puts the second file after the first. Without an offset it starts where the previous file ends; with one it starts at that time.
- Split at a time keeps a cue that starts before the split whole in the first part. Later parts start again at 0:00, so merging them back with an offset equal to the split time gives the original file.
Limits you should know
- Everything runs in your browser. Text you paste and files you choose are not uploaded to TubeTranscript or anywhere else.
- Timing is moved as is. The tool does not detect drift, so a file that is out of sync by a different amount at the end needs another approach.
- Up to four files can be merged at once. Files are limited to 5 MB each.
- Styling tags are kept as written. Output is always SRT.
FAQ
How do I make subtitles appear earlier?
Use a negative shift, for example -2.5. The tool refuses a shift that would move a cue before 0:00.
Can I shift only part of a file?
Yes. Enter a start point in "From" and only cues starting at or after it move.
What happens to a cue that spans the split point?
It stays whole in the first part, because it starts before the split.
Are cue numbers kept?
They are renumbered from 1 in every output, which is what players expect.
Is anything uploaded?
No. All editing happens in your browser.
