Copy a YouTube Transcript Without Timestamps
By Kenji Saito · Updated
To get readable text without timestamps, extract a video in TubeTranscript and choose Copy text or download TXT from the result. Keep JSON, SRT or VTT when you need the text to retain its relationship to the original audio.
Copy plain text from the result
Paste a video link into the YouTube transcript generator. When the result is ready, choose Copy text. Paste the text into your notes or editor. You do not need to remove timestamp labels by hand.
If the browser blocks clipboard access, choose TXT — plain text in the format selector and then Download. The result's download actions operate on the transcript already available in your browser; you do not need to turn a private result into a public page to save it.
What changes when timestamps are removed?
The following is a small illustrative example written by TubeTranscript, not a quotation or transcript of a real YouTube video.
Timed data:
[
{ "start": 0, "duration": 4, "text": "Write down the main question." },
{ "start": 4, "duration": 5, "text": "Check the answer against the source." }
]
Plain text:
Write down the main question.
Check the answer against the source.
The wording is preserved; timing fields are omitted from the plain-text output. Copying text does not fact-check the speaker or repair recognition mistakes. Before quoting or publishing it, compare important passages with the video.
Choose TXT, JSON or subtitle files
| Format | Use it for | Timing retained? |
|---|---|---|
| Copy text / TXT | Reading, notes and editing | No |
| JSON | Scripts, retrieval and timestamp citations | Yes: start and duration |
| SRT | Importing subtitles into an editor or player | Yes: subtitle cues |
| VTT | Web captions | Yes: subtitle cues |
Removing timestamps from the only copy makes it harder to return to a particular spoken passage. For research and AI workflows, keep a timed JSON copy alongside your readable notes. For subtitles, inspect the SRT/VTT file in your target player: chunk boundaries and timing may need editorial adjustment. Empty or zero-length timed chunks are omitted from subtitle files rather than assigned invented durations.
Public transcript pages and private results
Free and guest extractions are published to TubeTranscript's public library. Public pages have a download menu for formats including TXT, SRT, VTT and JSON. TXT downloads contain readable text without timing labels. Pro requests remain private to your team; use the copy/download controls in your result to keep that workflow private.
If you need API output instead of a manual download, read the YouTube transcript API reference. A Pro API key is required. The response uses timed chunks; your application can join their text fields when it needs a readable version. The YouTube transcript API page shows that request in curl, Python and JavaScript; its transcript.text field is already free of timestamps.
If no text appears
A correct link does not ensure usable captions or accessible audio. Check the missing transcript troubleshooting guide before retrying. Read the privacy and rate-limit documentation before submitting content that should not become public.
