VTT to SRT converter

To convert VTT to SRT, paste your WebVTT captions or choose a .vtt file, then select Convert to SRT. The tool numbers each cue, switches the millisecond dot to a comma, adds missing hours and removes NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks. Everything happens in your browser.

Don't have the file yet? Get subtitles from a YouTube link, or get the transcript as text.

What VTT features are removed in SRT

SRT is a simpler format, so some WebVTT information has no place to go:

  • Cue settings such as align:start or position:10% are dropped. Position the subtitles in your editor if needed.
  • Voice and class tags such as <v Host> and <c.yellow> are removed, including the speaker name in <v>. The spoken text stays.
  • Cue identifiers (like intro in the example) are replaced by sequential numbers.
  • NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks are skipped.
  • Short timestamps such as 01:05.000 become 00:01:05,000, because SRT always needs hours.

Entities like &amp; and &lt; are turned back into & and <.

Limits you should know

  • Everything runs in your browser. Text you paste and files you choose are not uploaded to TubeTranscript or anywhere else.
  • Files are limited to 5 MB and are read as UTF-8.
  • Speaker names written as <v Name> are removed. Add them to the text manually if you need them in the SRT.
  • Overlapping cues are kept as they are; some players show only one at a time.

FAQ

Is the VTT to SRT converter free?

Yes, with no sign-up. The conversion runs in your browser, so there is no upload or usage limit.

What if my VTT timestamps have no hours?

They are supported. 02:03.456 is written as 00:02:03,456 in the SRT.

Are italics kept?

Yes. <i>, <b> and <u> are kept because SRT players commonly support them. Other VTT tags are removed.

Can I get plain text instead of SRT?

Use SRT to text on the result, or remove timestamps from a pasted transcript.
