SRT to text converter

To turn SRT subtitles into plain text, paste the file contents or choose a .srt file, then select Convert to text. Cue numbers, timing lines and formatting tags are removed, repeated caption lines are collapsed and the text is grouped into paragraphs ready to read, edit or paste into an AI assistant.

Why auto-caption files repeat lines

Subtitle files made from auto-generated captions often repeat a line in the next cue so it scrolls up on screen. Read as text, every sentence would appear twice. This tool drops a line when it is identical to the line just before it, so the text reads once. Lines that differ by even one word are kept.

Keep the original SRT if you may need to find a passage in the video later: plain text has no timing. For AI work with long files, send the result to the transcript splitter.

Limits you should know

  • Everything runs in your browser. Text you paste and files you choose are not uploaded to TubeTranscript or anywhere else.
  • Files are limited to 5 MB and are read as UTF-8.
  • Partially repeated rolling captions (where only part of a line repeats) are not merged.
  • Sound tags such as [Music] are removed.

FAQ

Does SRT to text keep timestamps?

No. Use the SRT itself, or convert it to VTT, if you need timing.

Can I convert a VTT file to text?

Yes. VTT files are read the same way; the WEBVTT header and NOTE blocks are ignored.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 5 MB, which is far larger than a typical subtitle file. Pasted text has no fixed limit.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It is read and converted in your browser.
