YouTube Transcript Not Available? What to Check

If a YouTube transcript is missing, first distinguish a video you cannot access from a video that simply has no usable captions. Retrying a removed video will not restore it. Audio transcription may help with missing captions, but it cannot guarantee access to restricted content.
Check the link and video availability
Open the original video in YouTube. Confirm that it is the video you intended and that it is still available to you. A private, deleted, region-restricted or age-restricted video may not be accessible to an extraction service even when your signed-in browser can play it.
TubeTranscript accepts watch, youtu.be, Shorts, embed and live video links. A channel or playlist URL is not a single-video request. Paste a link to one video into the transcript generator. Unsupported links are rejected before a job starts.
Understand captions versus transcription
Captions are existing timed text associated with the video. Some are uploaded by a creator; others are generated automatically. Their presence and quality vary. Missing captions do not necessarily mean that the video has no speech.
TubeTranscript tries the caption path first. When this path fails, the worker can attempt to download audio and transcribe it with Whisper. This fallback takes longer and depends on the service being able to access the audio. The deployment's audio duration limit and upstream availability still apply. Silent videos, music with no usable speech, inaccessible audio or processing failures may not produce a useful transcript.

When the video has no captions at all
If a video has neither uploaded nor automatic captions, there is nothing to copy from YouTube's transcript panel. The only way to get text is to transcribe the audio. You can transcribe a video with no captions by pasting its link: TubeTranscript switches to Whisper on its own. Guests get a few of these per day, and the longest video depends on the plan; that page lists the exact limits.
Match the error to the next action

Retry without losing the distinction
In the web extractor, fix the link and choose Get transcript again if the request could not start. If the extraction channel stops, choose Cancel and start again to return to the input. A new extraction is a new request and can use your allowance; avoid repeatedly restarting a job that is still processing.
For API integrations, handle the returned status rather than treating every response as a completed transcript. The API reference documents in-progress responses, retry instructions and error codes. When to contact support
If an accessible video fails repeatedly after a temporary service issue has passed, contact support with the error and when it occurred. Do not include API keys or private transcript text in a public report. Free transcripts are public; choose the private Pro workflow if the text must remain within your team.
