Welcome everyone! Today we are going to talk about two things that seem superficial and trivial but are not. The way you dress and the perfume you choose. I know that for many people this may sound like useless vanity, something secondary, that doesn't deserve attention when life is full of more important things.

But today I will show you why that perception is wrong and why ignoring these two things may be costing you much more than you imagine. So we will start with clothing wool.

There is a phenomenon studied in psychology where American researchers conducted an experiment that was simple but very revealing. I had people perform attention-based tasks while wearing a white lab coat.

Half of the participants were told that the coat was a doctor's and the other half were told it was a painter's. The coat was exactly the same. The results were completely different between the groups. Those who believed they were wearing a doctor's coat made far fewer mistakes.

Why? The meaning of the clothing altered their mental state. Do you see? Not theology, it's not theory, it's not biology. It is your own brain. Responding to what you wear as if it were information about who you are and what you are capable of doing.

Jordan Peterson puts this a bit more directly in his book, Twelve Rules for Life. Right in chapter one he talks about physical posture and how that physical posture alters your mental state and he also talks a lot about the lobsters and such.

It's a he tells a story about lobsters. You'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about. Okay, I won't tell the story here. But basically if you have the posture of a winner, you win. Whoever has the posture of a loser, well it doesn't matter.

If they have the knowledge and skill, they will lose because their posture is already communicating that they will lose, understand. And clothing is part of this issue of posture. When you get dressed up, when you intentionally choose what you wear, your nervous system registers this as a sign of presence, capability and value.

The opposite is also true. When you spend the whole day looking sloppy without care, the message you send to yourself is today doesn't matter and I don't matter. So the question is not whether clothing matters because it's already clear that it does, but rather what your clothing is saying.

About you, to the world and to yourself. So let's go, let's talk about intentionality in this matter because dressing with intentionality isn't just about having an expensive wardrobe full of brands or following fashion, okay?

It's about making conscious choices based on three simple criteria for us here. As we are Catholics, modesty, style and the occasion. Modesty comes first and here I need to deconstruct a bit of a misconception that is very common, right? Modesty is not something caricatured, it's not something.

Strange, ugly and it is not an erasure of oneself. Modesty is a virtue that orders the presentation of oneself in accordance with human dignity. It is dressing in a way that communicates respect for yourself, for the environment and for the people around you.

A modest woman does not expose her body in a way that distracts the attention of others that draws the attention of others but she also does not erase herself. She presents herself with care, with elegance, with presence, okay? And here, about modesty, there is an issue.

If you go to the gym in a burka, you will not be being modest, why? You are drawing a heck of a lot of attention to yourself. It is an outfit that, for that environment, is strange. If you go to the Middle East in a burka, it is common attire. Do you see the difference?

This does not mean that exposing too much of the body and certain parts of the body, depending on the environment, is modest. I don't mean that either, okay? Don't get confused, okay? But being dressed in a way that is consistent with an occasion, in a way that you don't stand out too much from the others.

It is a matter of modesty. Imagine going to a wedding in jeans and a t-shirt, zero modesty. You will draw attention in that case in a negative way but it could be in a positive way and it still wouldn't be good. As for style, it is the expression of your identity through your clothing.

And it needs to be consistent with who you are, it needs to be yours, okay? When you find your style, the pieces that make you feel like yourself and communicate who you are, you stop wasting so much energy deciding what to wear because that choice was already made when you bought it, do you see?

So it's something we won't be able to solve right now, right? If you've spent your whole life buying things without any intentionality, just because you thought they were cute or cheap, you'll have to gradually adjust that in your life.

But either way you can open your closet, take out and donate what doesn't make any sense to you, what has nothing to do with you and keep only what does. And start using things that way. As for the occasions what I mentioned, right?

It's a practical criterion, okay? You go to the gym, you're going to wear sneakers, functional, comfortable, appropriate clothing. If you go hiking, wear hiking shoes, clothes that protect you. If you go to an important meeting, you'll wear clothes that communicate the position you want to occupy in that space, right?

This isn't complicated at all. It's a matter of respect for the context, okay? And here I want to say something that actors know very well which most ordinary people ignore in daily life. Clothing helps build the character, doesn't it? Doesn't it?

And you live out several characters throughout the day, mother, father, professional, wife, husband, friend, leader, boss. Troll has an appropriate presentation. And it's a matter of being aware that you exist in different contexts and that each context calls for a version of you.

So let's move on to some things here that are a little more practical, right? For example, a structured bag for women in classic colors like black beige or caramel will communicate seriousness, solidity, presence, and authority.

Briefcase will also communicate authority and professionalism to yourself and to others. Red, on the other hand, can communicate power, presence, or even sensuality, or even juicy. These are visual languages that our brain reads instantly and judges instantly.

So you catch a glimpse of someone who is super well-dressed like in the Devil Wears Prada, right? Meryl Streep, Miranda, is super well-dressed. Even if she were a nobody in that context, just by her clothes, you would judge her to be someone important.

And the Devil Wears Prada is a great example for us here. Do you remember Andy? Andy thought clothes didn't matter, so she would just put on any outfit and think it was fine. And what happened? She started being looked down upon because of her clothes.

And those clothes she wore weren't conveying the competence she actually had to her job, her coworkers, and her boss. So she was diminished because of her clothes.

When she started to change, people began to give her more credibility. And you might say, but wow, how unfair is that? The world works like this, and it's up to us to accept, understand, and use it in our favor.

Okay. Now let's go to perfume because this isn't a class meant to be a course on image positioning or fashion or anything like that. I will leave some profiles below that deal with this type of subject and can help you, okay?

Hi. If by chance I forget, please remind me, but I don't think I will forget when including this video. Now let's go to perfume then. And for me, it's something I really like, okay? And it gets even more interesting because I've been working with perfume for many years.
