  • Before 2000, the era of physical machines meant you could install only one operating system on a single hardware system.
  • After 2000, VMware introduced hardware virtualization which allowed running multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single hardware using a hypervisor.
  • Containers, appearing after 2013, are described as lightweight virtual machines.

hello and welcome in this video I'm going to explain you about container as you know that doer is a technology which is used to manage maintain containers but what is this container we need to understand this right so let's understand container step by

step here I have three different mind map point I'm going to explain you all these three mind map Point into these three videos okay very first mind m point is container is one type of lightweight virtual machine first of all we need to understand what is virtual machine and then we need to understand what is this

lightweight virtual machine right so let's start with this here I I'm going to explain you virtual machine first using this particular whiteboard to understand the virtual machine we have to understand the physical machine as well and we need to understand era before 2000 so let's start with the with the era

before 2000 okay so before 2000 it was not the concept of virtual machine it was the concept of physical machine now let's say that you have your application you have your Java base application and you want to run this application to run any application you must have

compute let's say that you have to purchase one server server means high performance performing compute system and then you have to install operating system then required framework and then you can install application over there so so let's let's discuss it let's say that you have to purchase Hardware first okay so you just purchase one Hardware

now when we talk about Hardware it is always four major components it is CPU RAM storage and networking okay so first of all you need to purchase Hardware in order to run your of application now the second components is on on this particular top of your Hardware you have to

install operating system now this operating system can be any it can be windows or it can be Linux keep this in mind that we are talking about before 2000 and before 2000 it was Era of a physical machine so specifically if you have one Hardware okay you can install only one operating system and

run them simultaneously okay now the word that I'm using over here you need to remember about this you need to understand this I am talking about you can not run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single Hardware before 2000 let's say that if I have one

Hardware and I want to run Linux and windows both operating system simultaneously on a single Hardware it was not possible before 2000 okay yes you can install dual boot operating system over there that you have two operating system installed but when you will start your computer it will ask you do you want to start

Windows if you say yes it will start Windows your Linux will be there but it is always power off now if you're again going to start this and if you're telling them I want to start window or Linux then your windows is power up so yes you can run Windows or Linux one of them you cannot run both of them simultaneously at a time okay it

was a limitation before 2,000 now once you have your operating system ready then you have to install framework let's say that if you want to run your uh Java base application you have to install JRE Java runtime environment and then on the top of this okay you are going to install your

operating uh your application your app so this is how we used to run our application on the physical machine but after that we got a new concept of virtualization so after 2000 VMware a company called VMware

comes into the picture and they provided us a concept of hardware virtualization using this concept we have flexibility to run multiple operating system simultaneously on a single Hardware so let's say that if I have one Hardware okay and I want to run multiple

operating system I can do this as well now how first of all you have to you have your Hardware then on the top of your Hardware you have to have VMware proprietary software known as hypervisor okay so you have to install this hypervisor for first inside your

system okay now once you install your hypervisor then you have flexibility to install multiple operating system so let's say that here I can install only one here I can install and then multiple operating system if you look at this here I am using three operating system I can

install them and I can run them simultaneously okay you can run different operating system as well let's say that in one OS you here you want Linux OS here you want Windows here I have Linux here I have windows so it is also possible to install different operating system and

run them s multaneously now this is a Linux operating system install over here and if you want to run Java Bas application here and then you are going to install JRE no need to worry here you want to use net application so you are installing net and then there is a different apps as well so here you are running your Java base

app and here you are running your netbase app application okay so this is also possible to run them in isolated environment and instead of installing three different uh operating system on the three different Hardware you are installing them on the same Hardware which is called hardware

virtualization and here this particular box this is app JRE and Linux the whole structure we call it V M this is physical machine and this is virtual machine and if you look at this here I have vm1 vm2 and even I have vm3 so three VMS are actually installing on a single

Hardware they are using same Hardware they are uh sharing this Hardware so this is a concept known as hardware virtualization and here we don't have a big difference between the physical machine and Hardware yes they are running they're sharing their Hardware that is a that is the main point but if you talk about operating system of physical machine and

operating system of virtual machine it is sa let's say that if you want to install Windows server and the minimum dis requirement is 20 GB so here in the physical machine it is also 20 GB and if you are installing Windows Windows over here okay in the virtual machine the 20gb is say the installation dis ISO dis everything remains same the only

difference is here you are not sharing Hardware with anyone here you are sharing Hardware by by using this particular hypervisor and this is called virtual machine after 2,000 people become very serious about virtual machine and companies are using virtual machine for their production

environment as well yes managing virtual machine is easier than managing Hardware or a specific physical machine because here you have to have like a less Hardware requirement same like physical machine we have operating system over here we have runtime environment over here it is the

same there is no difference between phys physical machine and uh and uh virtual machine now when we are talking about container okay it is era after 2013 and this is even lightweight

virtual machine okay so here it is a virtual machine it is not lightweight virtual machine it is just same as physical machine but when we are talking about container it is like same as VM but it is lightweight now you may have this question how we can say that it is lightweight we are going to talk about

this in the next video because if you look at this second point it is using o based virtual machine stay tuned in the next video I'm going to explain you why virtual machine is lightweight and what is the concept of OS based virtual machine see you in the next video have a nice day goodbye
