There's a lot easier than it is to do sometimes, but it's also easier than it really sounds. Really what it comes down to is you just have to be consistent in your application of the word to situations.
The more consistent you are, the faster your mind is renewed. If it's just hit and miss, guess what? Your mind renewal will be hit and miss and it'll take you a long time. Some people live and die in the church and never have their mind renewed.
We don't want that. That's not the way it's supposed to be. You have to be consistent in replacing and casting down those vain imaginations, these thoughts, these things that raise himself up against the knowledge of the Word of God or against the knowledge of God is what the Bible says.
You have to consistently. That means for a period of time, every time that happens, you've got to do something. If you do it every tenth time it happens, you're moving there, but it's a slow movement. If you only have your mind renewed on Sunday, it's going to take the rest of your life if even then you get your mind renewed.
This is something you have to apply on a regular basis. It's just like literally it's disciplining your mind to think correctly. It's exactly the same way with disciplining children. If you are consistent in your discipline, you won't have to apply discipline that long.
You're actually being, I hate to say it this way, because applying discipline isn't being mean, okay? But if you're not consistent with it, you're being mean. Why? Because you're not really training the child, you're just spanking them or whatever it is you do.
If you consistently, in other words, no matter where you are, no matter what's going on, no matter who you're around, no matter what other people think. If you've told them not to do something and they do it, they need, and this is one of the things that people need to realize, punishment, judgment, discipline, have you want to say it?
And this is a common thing, actually, this is from Deuteronomy. It actually says that when a person commits a crime or a sin and the punishment is not quick, then it causes them to actually harden their heart against God.
So it's the same thing with a child. When a child, let's say they throw a temper tantrum or something in a store. If you don't deal with that right then, if you postpone the spanking, oh, you wait till we get home, then you are not training them, okay?
At best, maybe, maybe you're putting fear in them, maybe, why? Because maybe they actually believe you're going to spank them when you get home. Sometimes they go, well, by the time we get home, they'll have totally forgot about it and it won't matter.
And now they're training you instead of you training them. So there has to be consistent, quick, disciplined, chastisement, punishment if necessary, right? And it has to be right then, right where it is, you know?
You tell a child, oh, you do that again and you're going to get a spank. Oh, you're fixing to get a spanking. You are wasting your breath because that does not register with a child, right? See, what registers with them is the nerves that are attached to their rear end.
That's what registers with them, yeah. And when you tend to inflame those nerves, okay, at that point, it goes up in registers in their brain, right?
And so, but it has to be consistent. That means for a while, doesn't matter where, doesn't matter who, doesn't matter, fix it right then. And you do that. And I'll tell you what, in some place you do that and people, you know, they'll be trying to dial 911, you know, and other people stand back and clap.
That's the way to do it right there. That's the way, yeah. Okay, so anyway, don't know how we got off on that, but regardless, okay, we're still in James chapter one, verse 21, went down to 22, verse 22. He says, but be doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own selves.
So that's the first way. It's the main way you will ever be deceived is that you deceive yourself by believing you're doing the word when you're only hearing it. Okay, now, for it, now watch what he says. For if any man be a hearer of the word and not a doer, now watch this.
He is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass. We would call it a mirror. Now, no, man, what we just said about words and pictures. James just proved that. He said, you hear the word and don't do it.
There's a word, right? Then you're like a person looking in a mirror. Now, when you look in the mirror, what are you seeing? Words? No, you're seeing a picture. So if you don't do the word, okay? You're like a person that sees a picture from this and then you walk away and watch what it says.
And for he beholds himself and goes his way and straightway forgets what man or man he is. That means when you look in this, it tells you what man or man you are. You got that? This is who you are. And so you need to write.
Now, as we've said many, many times, we've used this example. You look at this because he says, if you look at this, you're looking at a mirror. And it says, if you hear this and don't do it, then you're like a person that looks in a mirror and when he walks away, forgets who he is.
That means that what you see in this is who you are and how you're supposed to act. You got that? Now, notice though, because this, we know that Jesus was the word made flesh. And so this is Jesus as we said in digital form.
So if Jesus is the word made flesh, when we're looking at this, we're looking at him. You got that? So if you look at this, you're looking at a portrait. When you look at a portrait, you see the picture of the person that's in the portrait.
Is that right? And in this case, we're looking at Jesus. But here it says, if we look at this, we're looking at ourselves. Why? Because we're supposed to grow up into him. Do you get that? This is who you're supposed to become.
He made you this in the spirit. And as you hear it and do it, it gets solidified in you and you look a little more like him. And the more consistently you do it, the more consistently you grow to look like him. Right?
Now, please understand. And we said this from the very beginning. It's in the front of your manual. That total dependence means total empowerment. It brings total empowerment. Total empowerment requires total dependence.
You get it? So when we talk about these things, listen, we are what we are because God made us what we are. We didn't make ourselves. We can't make ourselves. You get that? All we can do is agree with God and let him recreate us by making Jesus Lord.
Jesus puts himself in us, recreates us in his likeness and image, and now the rest of our life, we are spent moving toward that image and causing our mind, our soul and our spirit to start to line up so that we actually look on the outside what we look like on the inside.
All right? Yeah. And please understand that. Well, by the way, I even just said you should clearly understand this is not about us exalting people.
Right? We exalt Jesus. That's right. Because without him we can do nothing. Isn't that right? And the good news is without him and with him we can do all things. So we should be focusing on what we can do with him, not what we can do without him or what we can't do without him because we're not without him.
Amen? And so now, and I'm not, listen, people say, wait, you're just lifting man up to the place of Jesus. And I'm like, no, I'm not. And then they turn around and say, well, you're bringing Jesus down to man's level.
