In the next 18 months, there's going to be thousands of millionaires created because they are taking advantage of this moment in time. Whatever you're really passionate about and good at, with AI, you can now figure out how to make more money at scale with. >> Morgan DeBaun, founder of Blavity, founder of AfroTech, which is like one of the largest conferences in America.
>> I want more people who look like me and you, who are women, who are moms, starting businesses and using these tools so that they're able to maintain their quality of life and make more money. To make more money, we need to build an agent that only job is to be your chief revenue officer. Now, agents, people try to overcomplicate this. Agents are just documents. They're written files with a job description that have access to tools.
>> What would you say to someone listening is like the step one? >> This is where most people mess up and they wonder why they're not able to have agents in the way that I'm talking about. You've got to have a >> Ah, it's crazy because I was the kid on the 40-minute bus ride to school in London, dreaming about sitting across from people like this and the guests that we have every week on the show. And I'm so deeply aware, the thing that made
that dream possible was you guys. It was every single one of you that tunes in, comments, and likes, and sends me DMs about the show. Can you please hit that subscribe button? It helps us scale the guests and make this an even better show for you. Thank you and let's get into the episode.
>> I was reading your website this morning and there was a line that I read. I just wanted to give it back to you. You said, "I help entrepreneurs build an AI-powered business that gets more done, increases profit, and depends less on you."
And so, Morgan, my question is, if someone's clicked on this video because they want to learn how to use AI to help them make more money and take meaningful, stressful work off their plate. Like they just feel inundated right now.
What is going to be the value And what will they be able to do after listening to this conversation? >> There are so many people who have fantastic ideas, and frankly with ChatGPT and Claude, you can have a million ideas a day, but execution is actually the hard part now, right? And I think people have this understanding that oh, with AI I should be able to execute more and do more, but the problem is that they're not organizing their information in a way that's going to get results. And so they wind up just
spending hours and hours with these AI tools, but it doesn't change their income on the back end, and it doesn't save them time. So my goal is to help people figure out how do you structure your work with AI so that your business is actually growing, and so that you actually stop working at 4:30, not just then spend an extra 3 hours playing back and forth with ChatGPT.
>> Yeah. You know, you you you talk about that point of uh using AI in a way that your business is actually growing. And even in the quote that I read, you said I help entrepreneurs build an AI-powered business that gets more done, increases profit, and depends less on you. That point of the AI business I'm curious if you could almost take us back in time because you're using AI across all of your different companies and in your life. Like we'll get into it.
But if we were to compare the point in time, I don't know, Morgan from 3 to 5 years ago when you weren't using AI to do anything to now when it's like probably in every facet and using Claude in multiple aspects in your companies what is like the day-to-day? Like if I was a fly on the wall in your office, what is the difference that I'm seeing?
>> Totally. So old me used to wake up. We use so many tech tools. I have about 75 employees, and at our peak we're at about 150, and these are human employees by the way. >> You have to You have to specify now.
>> Crazy, I know. I'm like I've got 40 AI employees, and I've got real people as well on payroll, okay? Um and we use Slack, Asana, Salesforce, Gmail. We use an entire suite of tech products to run our business. And I used to have to be in every single one of those tools every single day. So, people are tagging me in Asana and I'm actually opening Asana to read through the work that people are doing and what needs approvals. I'm going into our Salesforce data and looking at Salesforce reports
and actually opening up Salesforce dashboards. It's like crazy to even say now cuz I'm like I haven't opened Salesforce in weeks. But, I'm actually going into it and when I'm having one-on-ones with people, we are opening up their Salesforce pipeline, looking at their data, going through each client deal in Salesforce, right? Now, I don't do any of that. Like, the agents that we have working within our business are sending me the information that I want proactively and I don't have to open up
every single tool to get access to the information, to ask questions about it, to get context from it, and then to be able to have a more productive conversation with my team. I'm spending less time in the weeds of my business and more time actually doing the strategy, doing the adjusting, the pivoting. There's so much happening in the world. It's our job as CEOs to work in the future. But, if I'm stuck in the day-to-day, I'm never going to start building something for the future.
>> Yeah. You know, Morgan, the interesting thing and even just as I I made a note as I was listening to you, the experience that you just described of how things used to be in your business and in your life where like you're in Slack or you're in Teams or Salesforce, that is what most people are experiencing right now. Like, they're still there.
And so, I understand the value for like Morgan De Baun the entrepreneur of just being more productive and using agents in the way you are. I want to just make this so real for people. On a human level, >> Mhm.
>> what has it meant to you? Like, what has that impact been even just in terms of your your life, the way that you feel? >> Yeah. >> In terms of that shift that you've made from like you're in these tools 24/7 to now it's actually you're at like a higher level and these agents are helping you in that process.
>> I used to feel like the difference between my brain and my ability to get work done was time. I don't feel that way anymore. I feel like the difference today is my capacity to set up workflows for the work to get done. It's no longer I don't have enough time in the day.
And I think for most people they're operating with I don't have enough time. I'm juggling my kids, I'm juggling work, I'm juggling my fitness, my wellness, and I'm juggling the insane amount of work that my teams, my bosses have put on my plate. And my suggestion and my alternative for people is if you invest the time to learn these things, to learn these tools, and to set them up with the right context, I promise you you can have more time for yourself and less
time physically doing the manual >> You know what? It's like um it's funny cuz I was uh I was talking a couple of weeks ago with your uh chief of staff.
>> Yeah. Kate. My human chief of staff. >> Yeah, your human chief of staff. I need to put like a disclaimer on the top of this podcast. Uh And and we were talking about the fact um she was talking about you as like a teacher. The fact that you uh you really love sharing information.
And it was so it was so interesting to me because I think about some of the things that you've done, right? Like you're you're the founder of Blavity, which is a successful business, uh founder of AfroTech, which is like one of the largest conferences in America, um especially in the tech space.
Uh you have a huge personal brand. You have over 500,000 followers across different platforms. And so I wanted to understand because we're going to go through and like how you're using Claude and these workflows and agents that you've set up uh and how you set them up.
But I'm curious of that love of teaching and like sharing information with people because you really don't have to do it. Like you're already getting the benefit of using these tools within your own business. Why is that such a meaningful thing for you and in this moment that we're in is actually sharing that information, teaching people? Like why does that mean so much to you?
>> We're in a inflection point where there are going to be millionaires made in this moment in time. In the next 18 months, there's going to be thousands of millionaires created because they are taking advantage of this moment in time.
There are going to be people that decide that they still want to walk when you can run. There are going to be people who decide to take the train when you can fly. I want more people who look like me and you, who are women, who are moms starting businesses and using these tools so that they're able to maintain their quality of life and make more money. And I think that a lot of the things that you see in Silicon Valley it feels just very bro. Like it feels very tech and I want people to not be
scared to engage and to understand this technology because it is being integrated into everything that we do in the healthcare system and the education system and the banking system. And so we as people need to understand how this stuff works. The best way to understand technology is to get a benefit from it.
And the thing that most people want is to make more money and to have more time for themselves. So if I can help give people the information in a relatable way and teach them how to get it for their benefit, not to help make their boss more money, not to necessarily, you know, speed up the cost of goods sold going down for their companies, but for their own personal benefit then I promise you that the outcome and the impact will be, you know, insurmountable to the amount of effort that they can
put into this right now. >> Yeah. You know, it's it's like uh it's crazy. It like hits home when you put it in those terms of like over these next 18 months, there's going to be thousands of millionaires. Like that level of scale. And so, Morgan, where my mind goes because you talk about uh moms, like working moms, women, people that look like you and I.
If we kind of fast forward 18 months and we think about like the people there's going to be some people that listen to this conversation and they did things and then it happened and then there's going to be some people that like it never had that impact. And so, if we take those people where like it did meaningfully change their life.
